Indian Railways diesel locomotive WDM4 No. 18001. This is one of 72 EMD locomotives based on the SD24, delivered 1962. 1939 kW, 140 km/h. These were acquired at the same time as the Alco WDM2 and successful in tests, they remained in service until the 1990s but an agreement for transfer of technology could not be found at the time so Alco-based locomotives became the backbone of Indian Railways instead. 37 years later, IR turned to EMD again, with Alco long out of business, and started production of the WDP4, WDG4 and WDG5 series under a new agreement.
