Syria 28.9.2008: At just about every station along the Hedjaz Railway, there are rakes of stored wagons of many types, all of which had not been in use for many years. Here we see at Mesmie station a livestock van and a side-tip hopper, with just visible, a tank wagon and low-sided wagon on each side. All were equipped with the archaic device of a brake-man's cabin and dated from the 1900s. The livestock van bore the date of its last works overhaul - 18 February 1971!
