NS_IRM_mDDM_Amsterdam_CS.jpg (43745 bytes)

Amsterdam Centraal station, The Netherlands, March 2000.

Two of the newer EMU classes of NS can be seen here: the IRM (left) and the mDDM (right). IRMs are double-deck trains for long-distance trains, while the double-deck mDDM are used for regional trains on lines with many passengers. The mDDM motor cars (one seen here) are unusual: seating is only on the upper level, the electrical equipment is installed below. The units have six powered axles placed in three (!) bogies. There is only one motor unit per train, a driving trailer is on the other end.
