It was the most produced type of the so-called Kriegslokomotiven or Kriegsloks (war locomotives). The Class 52 was a wartime development of the pre-war DRG Class 50, using fewer parts and less expensive materials to speed production. 52 3879 was buil in 1944 with Woks number 17075. From 1944 it was operated by DRG as 52 3879, in 1945 it was incorporated by OBB as 52 3879. During 1980 it was acquired by Brenner & Brenner Dampflokomotiven Betriebsgesellschaft GmbH, in 1989 by SSN Nederland and from 2003 is now part of the VSM Collection.
