Due to the large capacity problem on the Amsterdam-Utrecht line, which is only two tracks at this time, this line is being doubled to four tracks which will be ready in 2007. Also, there will be a new connection built, the so called "Utrechtboog" which will connect the Schiphol-Weesp line to the Amsterdam-Utrecht line. This will enable the Dutch Railways to run direct trains between Schiphol and Utrecht (and further).

On the photo you see the new connection being built by a large machine which can build the concrete parts automaticly i.e. there is no rail where it runs on.

Due to the doubling of the Amsterdam-Utrecht line there will be a new station built at Amsterdam Bijlmer with 6 railway tracks instead of 2 and also the 2 metro tracks. Fortunately people have learned in the past and the new platforms will be very, very wide.

The crane which is installing a concrete platform object (which is only half of the new platform width (!)) will be the middle platform which will serve the metro tracks in both directions.

Here you see the underpassing of the new Bijlmer station. On the left side you see a temporarily underpassing which is very narrow. The new underpassing will be very wide when all construction works will be finished and will be integrated in the surrounded area which is a new place for people to go out. Here are a large cinema, the capitals football stadium and a music hall. On the other side of the station there is an enormous shopping area.
