NSB El 18 2251 with train Bergen - Oslo stopping in Finse. 2005-08-14.

Class El18, derived from the Swiss Re460/465, is today the (almost) only electric locomotive for regular passenger trains of the NSB - it replaced class El16 on the line to Bergen, class El17 on the lines to Trondheim and Stavanger. The El17 can only be found on the Flåm line, and in winter occasionally elsewhere (when Myrdal - Flåm has fewer trains). The El16, which were used for almost all trains on the Bergen line in the 1980s, all went to CargoNet or were sold to Sweden. With new EMUs such as class 70 and 73, locomotive hauled passenger trains are on the decline, still there are refurbishment plans for the B5 and B7 generation coaches.
