BM69044_hoen1.jpg (130232 bytes)

NSB BM 69044 in Høn, near Asker, southwest of Oslo. Most of Oslo's local transport is still operated with these old-fashioned units, as the delivery of class 72 doesn't seem to go as fast as planned. 2005-08-16.

Interior of the NSB BM 69044 in commuter traffic of Oslo, 2005-08-16. The seats on one side are mostly forward, on the other side mostly backward-oriented. Perhaps not the most ideal arrangement for suburban trains where people often need to get in and out .... face to face might be better in this case.

Boyle.jpg (185486 bytes)

During the last 25 years, service has been discontinued on several Norwegian branch lines. The Arendal branch, which connects the beautiful Skagerak coast with Nelaug on the Oslo-Stavanger line, was not supposed to be an exception. In the late nineties, however, catenaries were installed between Nelaug and Arendal, and this picture shows an Emu class 69 on a magnificent stone arch bridge about 10 kilometres south of Nelaug 22.07.2003. But, in spite of electrification, the Arendal line still lives a dangerous life.

Rural.jpg (108951 bytes)

Normally, the Emus of Norwegian State Railways class 69 are observed in urban surroundings. However, they have to pass quite rural places on their longest routes. This train is bound for Mysen, 64 kilometres southeast of Oslo, and has just done about half of the distance from the capital’s central station.

Tomter.jpg (94284 bytes)

Emu class 69.640 awaits departure for Ski and Oslo in the little borough of Tomter, 37 kilometres southeast of the capital. Tomter is typical for countryside stations of Norway, built in the Swiss-inspired style which was frequently used in Norway in the last quarter of the 19th Century.

peakhour.jpg (79137 bytes)

Peak hour at Oslo Central Station! In spite of being a capital of modest dimensions, Oslo can offer a peak hour traffic quite comparable with larger cities. This Wednesday afternoon several local departures were removed from the schedule, causing several problems for the travellers. Large crowds are trying to enter an eastbound Emu class 69 for Lillestrøm, and probably, no one will be left on the platform.

sole.JPG (45366 bytes)

Could someone give me a saw? Except from the vegetation in the foreground, this view point on the top of a little tunnel 9 kilometres south of Oslo, would have been a perfect place to photographe trains. The train is a stopping Emu class 69 from Moss in direction Oslo.

swednor.jpg (73524 bytes)

A rendezvous between trains of two countries! Southbound regional train Oslo - Sarpsborg hauled by Swedish State Railways Rc6 meets northbound suburban Emu of Norwegian State Railways class 69 in Ski 25 kilometres south of Oslo 06.04.2000. The main line between Oslo and Gothenburg can offer a true mixture of Swedish and Norwegian stock, and there are a lot of amazing photographing places along the tracks.
