The line Flåm - Myrdal is the steepest of Norway, with up to 5.5 %
gradients. Since 1998/2000 it is operated with six-car trains (five
B3, one BF3) with a locomotive El 17 at each end. Those locomotives,
a light version of DB class 120 (3000 kW, 150 km/h, 240 kN, 16.3 m,
64 t), were originally built 1981 for express trains, but have
meanwhile been replaced in those services by El18.
