Lodz, pl. Niepodleglosci. This is a modernised 803N-tramcar of the interurban tram company MKT. In the early 1990s two separate companies were created out of MPK Lodz in order to work the interurban tram lines around the city. MKT Lodz worked the lines to Pabianice (41), Zgierz (45) and Ozorkow (46), whereas TP Lodz works the line to Lutomiersk (43). Both companies received the older 102NaW and 803N trams (as well as the GT6 from Bielefeld). Last year both the cities of Pabianice and Zgierz terminated their contracts with MKT and signed new ones with MPK Lodz. The current setup is now as follows: tram line 11, operated by MPK Lodz, runs from Zgierz via Lodz to Pabianice (with short workings within Lodz city limits numbered as 11A), tram line 46, operated by MKT Lodz, was extended and now runs from Ozorkow through the whole city of Lodz to the terminus Lodz-Chocianowice. Additionally, MPK Lodz operates a commercial (i.e. unsubsidised) tram line numbered "P" which runs in Pabianice only. The loop visible on the photo was constructed to be the main terminus for interurbans running south of Lodz. Now it is unused. Lodz, VII.2002. Photo by: Karol Tyszka #straphan@poczta.onet.pl
