Refer - Coimbra - railway connection between stations of Coimbra-A and Coimbra-Parque is guarantized by a 800 m railway section along the streets of the city (Emidio de Navarro Avenue). Railway from Coimbra-Parque to Serpins, knonw as Arganil Railway, mends the river Mondego course between Coimbra city and the town of Serpins, along a distance of 36 km. First section of this railway, between Coimbra and Lousa, was open in december 1906, by the Railway of Mondego Co., and furtherly the line was enlarged until Serpins in august of 1930. For to join this railway to the rest of the portuguese railways net, was neccesary to built the named connection, which years after, and due the urbanistic growing of the city, was integrated in a street. Until the 70's, there was a regular transit of trains along this section, but after of this date only was used for the interchanging of the movil matherial of the line. In January 4th, 2011, all the Arganil Railway was closed for to convert it in a train-tram system light railway, which will be managed by a public company named Metromondego. This project will let to recuperate the circulation along the named urban section of Coimbra, and to establish a direct connection between Serpins and Coimbra-B station, on the railway from Lisboa to Porto, througth Coimbra-A.
