REFER - Sao Bento (En: Saint Benedict, Sp: San Benito) Station at Porto. Built over the ruins of the monastery of the same name, trains came to it for first time in 1896, after the difficult drilling of tunnels of Carlos I in a hard granitic rock, for carrying the tracks from Campanhá Station to this point at the Porto city center, but the station building, in French romantic style, wasn't ended until 1916. Built for the Minho - Douro railways Public Co., Property of the Portuguese Governement, was in origin the departure point of the railways that from Porto reach the Spanish borderline at Valença do Minho/Tuy (Galicia) and Barca de Alva/La Fregeneda (Castilla y León, Salamanca Province), ended respectively in 1886 and 1887. Currently is the headquarter of the CP company section for the administration of the suburban railways services around Porto.
