CFR - Co'Co' class 63
CFR 63-0834-0 leaving Bucuresti-Nord station, mai 2000.
This is not really a brand new locomotive, but it was totally rebuilt
from a class 60/62 loco, by Electroputere Craiova. Two (nr. 834 and
847) are now in service for the CFR Calatori (passengers) company.
The body and the diesel engine are new, the transmission is ac/dc, and
there's electric train heating.
Diesel engine: General Motors 8-710G3A, 8 cylinders in V
Power: 1546 kW (2100 hp, just like the old original Sulzer engine...)
Top speed: 120 km/h

63 "Rosapepe" diesel seen in Bucharest Main
rly. Station, pictured in October 2001, few minutes it
leaved Gara de Nord with Giurgiu-Ruse-Istanbul bounded
fast "BOSFOR".

CLass 63 diesel featured
on May6th, 2000 (BEFORE ITS OFFICIAL INAUGURATION that
occured only nine days later!) at Bucuresti Nord prior
to leave the station working a special chartered for
the CFR officials in connection with the exhibition
Ferroviaria 2000. This loco is nicknamed, together with
its sister, by CFR staff "Rosapepe" in honour to US
ambassador who witnessed their official
inauguration.
