New CFR class 96 DMU in Bucuresti Nord station.
10 DMU's where bought form Germany and are now operating on CFR owned railway lines. 96-2005-5
was just retreating to depot after its usual run to Iasi. Because of this the dispaly
said "Please don't climb aboard".

CFR DESIRO unit 96-2005-5 has just arrived in Bucuresti Nord station with an IC train from Targoviste.
This one of the latest line where the DESIRO units are used. In fact the traffic started on 19.04.2003.
Now there are two pairs of DESIRO units working on this line.

96-2005-5 CFR newly bought Desiro type DMU in Bucurersti Nord railway station.
New Desiro type DMU's are currently being imported form Germany. Although they are designed to
be used on secondary non/electrified lines, CFR is using them as fast trains on electrified
main lines. Till now 10 DMU's have arrived and they are currently working on Bucuresti-Craiova
and Bucuresti-Iasi routes. All 10 DMU's are registered to Bucuresti Calatori depot. They are
registered in class 96 which was formerly used by romanian prototype DMU's built by MARUB Brasov. The
DMU's are nicknamed "Sageata Albastra" (Blue Arrow) as a reminder of the romanian DMU prototype
intended to run between Viena and Constanta.
The units are equipped with two 275 kw engines linked to a mechanical transmision. The vehicle can reach
a maximum speed of 120 km/h and weights 68 tons.

Unit 96-2506-3 has just arrived in Bucuresti Nord station with an IC train from Craiova.
This is the first route worked by DESIRO units. Every day there are 6 IC trains that travel
on this line.

The first two Siemens DESIRO dmus trainsets belonging
to the first batch of 24 Siemens DESIRO dmu rakes
produced by Siemens SGP Verkehrs technik Graz, Austria
and delivered to S.N.T.F.C. CFR-Calatori (CFR's
passenger transport company-their Romanian owner) in
February 2003. At present these trainsets are in
service as Intercity trains coupled in pairs on the
routes Bucuresti-Nord-Pitesti-Piatra Olt-Craiova and
Bucuresti
Nord-Urziceni-Faurei-Tecuci-Barlad-Vaslui-Iasi but in
future they will run on the route Pitesti-Piatra
Olt-Podul Olt-Sibiu-Copsa Mica-Teius-Razboieni-Apahida-Cluj as well as
Cluj-Oradea-Salonta-Arad-Timisoara Nord. The first two DESIRO dmus - nicknamed by CFR management "The Blue Arrow" - seen in February 2003 in Bucharest Nord Station.

CFR InterCity Siemens Desiro DMU just arrived on time at Bucharest "Gara de Nord" from Brasov, Romania.
On the front electronic panel is written "Nu urcati !" meaning "Don't enter!", just why after all the
passengers left the train a team of cleaning operators entered in action. 19th August 2004

As you can see a diesel propulsed train is prepairing to start to Iasi (about 400 km, aprox. 70% electrified). Only in Romania it is possible, a diesel train runing on electrified railway !
