Roof-riding in the Bucharest suburbs was normal between 1945-1968; ticket collectors seldom climbed up there, having a good sense of self-preservation. But 25 kV overhead wires stopped the practice soon after July 1968 -the month when the photograph was taken. 230.244 - one of the 350 locos built new by Romania between the wars - is seen with a crowded service train in mid-Summer 1968 on Bucharest-Titu-Pitesti route.
