Built in 1983 by Voroshilovgrad, as a derivative from Class M62, yet with substantial changes:

- bogies without axleboxes' horn guides;
<br>
- heat sensors for traction motor suspension bearings;
<br>
- automated engine start;
<br>
- blackout lights;
<br>
- filter and ventilating plant; 
<br>
- fuel top-up from the tank-car; and 
<br>
- totally-flexible multiple-unit operation.
