A TCDD Class DE22 is pushing on the rear of a heavy iron ore train westbound through Gunes, just west of Divrigi, in east central Turkey on January 8, 2001. This consist is common on heavy freight trains on the TCDD, with a CO-CO diesel on each end of a train.

TCDD: The Dogu Expressi (East Express) has just left Kars near the Armenian frontier, and is racing towards Sarikamis on its daily 2000km journey to Istanbul-Haydarpasa on the morning of January 9, 2001. On this day, it is double-headed by a class DE22/DE24 duo.

The westbound Dogu Ekspressi (East Express) is held in the siding at Izzettin, Turkey as a heavy eastbound freight with a DE22 at each end enters the station. The whining of dynamic brakes on the heavy coal drag could be heard for several munites before the head end appeared from behind the hills.
Izzettin is at the bottom of a steep westbound ramp east of Kirikkale. The climb here challanging not only because of the grade, but also for numerous horseshoe curves.

unfortunately I hadn't had the opportunity to read number plate of the
rear locomotive. Picture was taken at the Karabük Station on May 29th, 2006.
