UZ electric locomotive ChS4-060 (AC 25 kV, 50 Hz) departs Kiev-Passazhirskiy (Kiev-Passenger) station with express train 59/60 "Bulgaria-Express", consisting of cars from Moscow and Kiev to Bucharest and Sofia.
March 17, 2001
These locomotives were built in the 1970s for the Soviet Railways (SZD) by SKODA. In 1999, this 30 year-old locomotive, along with a dozen others, was rebuilt by SKODA for the UZ as part of an ongoing modernization program. Part of the modernization includes a new body that is similar to that of the more modern ChS7 and ChS8 express electrics.
UZ later extended the modernization to include all ChS4's, and as of September 2002, about 25 locomotives were rebuilt.
