Arsenal'na station in Kyiv

Main street-level entrance to the Arsenal'na station for the "red" in Kyiv, Ukraine.

This station has possibly the deepest platform in any underground station in the world. It needs two sets of escalators, to get from the street and turnstiles to the actual train platform. The escalator sets themselves go about 50 metres up and down, making it about 100 metres underground. It takes just under ten minutes by escalator to get from the street to the platform.

Dorohozhychi metro station in Kyiv

A "green" line train leaves Dorohozhychi for Syrets. It is one of the more modern of the trains, as the red lines tend to have the older trainsets.

This station is where you would go in Kyiv to see the Babyn Yar site.

Sitting on the escalator at Maidan Nezalezhnosti station

It is not allowed to sit on an escalator in the Kyiv metro. Someone thought that rule was meaningless and sat down anyway. This was taken at the Maidan Nezalezhnosti station for the "blue" in Kyiv, Ukraine.

This station also has a connection to the "red" line at Khreshchatyk.

kyiv_metrolight1.jpg (74395 bytes)

Metro light in Kyiv

Kyiv's metro has many metro lights that have advertisements and public appeals. They can be seen at every metro station with escalators. Some of these lights have the same ads across the metro stations, others may have some of the same ads across a few stations. It is interesting to see the ads although you can only see them as you go up and down the escalators - once you go up from the platform, you are forced to exit the station and put in another token to enter, that is, if the station is not already crowded.

This light may have been photographed at Dorohozhychi on the green line.
