The system was opened in November 1935 (the second system in USSR after Moscow).
At present, the system has 44 routes and 4 depots. The system is served by Skoda 14Tr, Skoda 14TrM (#410-413, supplied in 1996), Skoda 15Tr (#450-495), YuMZ T1, YuMZ T2 (501-550, 4201-4243, supplied in 1995-2003), Kiew-12.03, one Kiew-12.04 and three low-floor models YuMZ-E186 (#4801-4807), LAZ-E183 and LAZ-E301.
