Network length, gauge and electrification (2001):

The RAI operates the railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The line Jolfa-Tabriz is eletrified, the rest of the network is diesel-operated.
Passenger trains are operated by RAI subsidiary Raja Passengers Trains Company. In 2008 Raja transported 26.2 million passengers
(7% more than in 2007) producing 15.3 billion passenger-km (+10%).
