Network length, gauge and electrification (2017):

• 2732km standard gauge, 194km electrified at 25kV 50Hz

The RAI operates the railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The line Jolfa(border with Azerbaijan)-Tabriz is eletrified mainly for freight and Tabriz-Azarshahr for commuter trains, the rest of the network is diesel-operated.
Passenger trains are operated by RAI subsidiary Raja Passengers Trains Company. In 2008 Raja transported 26.2 million passengers
(7% more than in 2007) producing 15.3 billion passenger-km (+10%).

 TUSROC - Tehran Urban and Suburban Railway Operating Company

Network length, gauge and electrification (2016):

• 43km standard gauge, all electrified at 25kV 50Hz

TUSROC operates public transportation in Tehran. The metro network consists of 4 conventional metro lines, and a 43km-long eletrified railway line Tehran - Karaj - Mehrshahr.
Trains consist of passenger coaches sandwiched between electric locomotives bought in China.
