Network length, gauge and electrification (2004):

In 2007 the Irish Railways (IE) transported 45.5 million passengers which is 5% more than in 2006. Freight traffic is very minimal in Ireland, less than 900,000 tonnes in 2007. In Northern Ireland over 750,000 passengers used NIR in 2007, 8.7% more than in 2006.

In 2010 the Waterford-Rosslare line closed for passenger services, but the Dunboyne line (M3 Parkway-Dunboyne-Dublin) was reopened for passenger services. This line is to be extended to Navan.
