Network length, gauge and electrification (2018):

IE operates all train services in the republic of Ireland. The Dublin-Belfast international service is commonly operated by IE and NIR. IE Infrastructure is the national infrastructure manager of Ireland.

In 2010 the Waterford-Rosslare line closed for passenger services, but the Dunboyne line (M3 Parkway-Dunboyne-Dublin) was reopened for passenger services. This line is to be extended to Navan.

In 2023 45.5 million passengers travelled with IE, 27% more than in 2022 and about 90% of pre-Covid levels.
