Transport of 108 rails, each 60 meters long, in bundles of 36 rails each loaded on three flat cars. The train is ready for delivery on the industrial track of voestalpine Donawitz. A-ÖBB 31 81 350 4 072-9 Rns-z is the first car. 2011-04-03.
ÖBB 31 81 350 4 185-9 Rns-z, end car of a rail transport train for 120 m long rails, consisting of six cars. The end cars are 22.37 m long Rns-z, the middle cars 20.00 m long Rs. So the entire train is nominally 124.74 m long, giving the rails enough space to move. Leoben-Donawitz, 2009-04-19, the world's longest rails are made in the voestalpine steel works here.
ÖBB 31 81 350 4 185-9 Rns-z, end car of a rail transport train for 120 m long rails, consisting of six cars. Overview of the whole train, carrying 20 rails, enough for 1.2 km of single track. I have seen other rail transport trains with up to 42 rails. Leoben-Donawitz, 2009-04-19.
ÖBB 31 81 350 4 229-5 Rns-z, end car of a rail transport train for 120 m long rails, consisting of six cars. Overview of the whole train, carrying 20 rails, enough for 1.2 km of single track. In the background you can see the blast furnaces and cooling towers of the steel works, the rail rolling mill is further down the valley. Leoben-Donawitz, 2009-04-19.
ÖBB 31 81 350 4 229-5 Rns-z, end car of a rail transport train for 120 m long rails, consisting of six cars. The rails rest on two supports on this car. Leoben-Donawitz, 2009-04-19.

This photo of the 31 81 350 4 312-9 in Leoben Donawitz (near the rail factory of voestalpine) shows how to transport 25 m long rails: The ÖBB Rns-z is too short, so you put an empty Ks car inbetween to protect the overhanging rails. 2009-05-01.
Rail transport on flat cars with the Rns-z 31 81 350-4 418-4 seen in foreground. Leoben Donawitz (voestalpine steel works), 2009-09-24.
Transport of 36 rails, each 120 m long, next to the voestalpine steel works of Leoben-Donawitz where they were produced. These trains consist of two Rns-z flat cars at the ends and four Rs cars in the middle, with rail supports screwed on. The whole train consisted of two "six car units", transporting the rails for 4320 m of track. Easter sunday, 2010-04-04.

The rails are clamped on the middle car and carried/guided by supports on the end cars, so they can bend as the train goes around curves. voestalpine can make rails of up to 120 m length (6 cars). ÖBB 31 81 390 1 420 in Buchs/SG on 16th of June 2005. No I don't think the car is noteworthy, but the way of loading. The wight should not be the problem (estimated 44 metric tons), but the high: The truck should be between 3200 and 3400 mm high and the Mercedes G-class must be 30 or 50 cm higher. Maybe it would help put off the air from the truck-tires...
