Schneebergbahn, Puchberg, Austria The Schneebergbahn is a very interesting cog railway which runs from Puchberg am Schneeberg to Hochschneeberg 1,700 meter above sea level. One trip a day is done with the steam powered train pictured here. All the other departures are with diesel powered "Salamander" trains, two of which we will meet on our way up the mountain. 31 Oct 1999; Inside a Salamander unit there isn't plenty of space especially when you want to go on an alpine tour with big rucksack.
