31 Oct 1999; For additional service on the former ÖBB rack railway from Puchberg up to the Schneeberg in Austria the "Niederösterreichische Schneebergbahn" purchased two diesel raicars consisting of a motor unit and two cars, one of them a steering unit. A third motor unit is in stock for use with conventional cars and for freight service. For obvious reason they are called "salamanders". To emphasize the touristic character of the line the owners decided for this rather unusual design inspired by native amphibian - note the different yellow spots on the front sides !
