1w-37609-chingford-jp.jpg (160153 bytes)

'Tractor' at Chingford! There I was walking into the station having just parked the car when I was greeted by first the sound and then the nose of a class 37 as it came to halt at the stops on platform 2...20 minutes earlier than we had expected them! DRS's 37609 had brought in the Serco Test Train...a first appearence for DRS at the station and a rare loco appearence there. The date the 23rd June 2006.

DRS 37 609 in the shed at the Barrow Hill Roundhouse Open Day Event on 10 April, 1999. Barrow Hill Engine Shed Society is at http://www.edge-of-nowhere.demon.co.uk/. The 37 is one of five sold to DRS from European Passenger Services. Direct Rail Services is the operator of BNFL’s nuclear trains and Railtrack weedkiller trains, but they also undertake to haul small freight consignments such as the occasional class 81 locomotive...

DRS 37610 heads north through Harrow on July 14th 2005 with a Serco Test Train. However in the background smoke can be seen rising from a large fire at a plastics factory which is clearly very close to the site of the new Wembley Stadium as the arch can also be seen in the picture taken by James.

Since the run down of the EWS class 37 fleet DRS 37s regularly find themselves on Serco duties...we are pleased to see! Here 37611 brings up the rear of the Test Train as it runs through Dudding Hill Junction on a freight only line in the NW London suburbs on the 28th February 2006.

Well its a good thing these 'Tractors' make such a racket as I might not have heard them approaching when looking in the opposite direction! 37607 assisted by 37608 on the rear THRASH through Stratford in quite splendid fashion on a late running Serco Test Train on the 13th February 2007. If it was not for DRS we would very seldom see these superb old locos dating from the early 1960s in action nowadays. The few remaining EWS class 37 4s are virtually always to be found in Scotland and only tend to to be seen in the south on the occasional rail tour.
