Nice scenic shot of a GNER HST set departing towards Aberdeen from Princes Street Gardens. You can tell if the train is bound for Aberdeen or Inverness because the Aberdeen trains will be running on the Down North line, via the Forth Bridge, and the Inverness trains will be running on the Down South line (closer to the camera), via Stirling. The grey boxes are points heaters.

Not-so-good Scenic shot of GNER Northern Lights HST running around the 30mph Morpeth bend north of Newcastle, with the overhead mast in the way of the power car. For some reason I have never been able to photograph the ‘deep blue’ GNER colour properly, it either reflects too much light or doesn’t show up properly! The GNER house colours look very impressive on the trains, it’s a pity that the photos never seem to be as good. One thinks of the IC125 units as DMU's but in reality they are permenantly coupled locomotives. As such the Class deisgination is Class 43. The only locomotive, it seems, able to replace a Class 43 is another Class 43. At the moment it is proposed to refurbish the Great Western and GNER Fleets. Seen outside Doncaster Works early February 2005.

For a train that first started to appear in the mid-1970s the High Speed Train or HST is now well over 25 years
old but still looks the part in 2003. Noisey and at times a little smokey they travel at speeds of up to 125 MPH.
This GNER example is just starting out on a journey to northern Scotland, a distance of over 500 miles.

30 June 2001, York, England, UK The National Railway Museum in York features a viewing gallery onto the northern part of York Railway Station and the approach lines. The photo was taken from this elevated platform. The platform is situated further to the rear compared to some other parts of the museum building, so the brick wall to the left obstructs a better and wider view of the incoming trains.
