CFL_2201_Audun-le-Tiche_1.jpg (158252 bytes)

Class 2200 EMU (Z-2201) of CFL, seen at the CFL station of Audun-le-Tiche, upon turnaround between RE 6466 from Luxembourg-Ville and RB 6491 to Esch-sur-Alzette.

Actually a very interesting entanglement of France and Luxemburg, as this station:

• is located in France
• is owned and managed by RFF
• was however re-instated in 1992 with funding from the Grand-Duchy of Luxemburg
• was cut off from the remainder of RFF lines in 1995, and may only be served from Luxemburg (Esch-sur-Alzette)
• is served by rolling-stock of CFL, yet often deriving from a French design (Class 24500 "TER2N-NG" EMUs in this case, or Class 11500 "Z2" EMUs)...

Audun-le-Tiche.

15th February 2007.

CFL - Luxemburg
The first new double deck trainset class 2200 of CFL was stabled quite far away from the platforms in Nancy, France! As CFL has ordered trainsets of the same type as SNCF it is probably used for test runs in northeastern France.

CFL - Luxemburg
Apart from new locomotives and double-deck coaches, CFL also recently bought a batch of double-deck EMUs: class 2200. CFL 2202 has just arrived in Rodange.

CFL_2212+Dosto_Hollerich_1.jpg (161026 bytes)

A shortcut through the various influences of neighbouring countries on Luxemburg railways, as well as through recent rolling-stock replacement at CFL:

• Left: Class 2200 EMU (Z-2212), seen on RB 7712 (Luxembourg Ville ---> Rodange);
this EMU derives from Class 24500 "TER2N-NG" EMUs of SNCF;
this line (to Rodange and Longwy/Virton/Athus) has 25kV-50Hz (AC) catenary, identical to that in Northern and Northeast France, while operation is on the right-hand track, as in Germany and Northeast France (ex-AL lines).

• Right: 3-car Dosto formation (007), seen on RB 5737 (Kleinbettingen ---> Luxembourg Ville);
these Dosto cars derive from those running in Germany (primarily at DB-FV), whereas this formation is pushed by a Class 3000 of CFL, identical to Class 13 of SNCB/NMBS, which themselves derive from Class 36000 of SNCF...
this line (to Arlon and Brussels) has 3kV (DC) catenary, identical to that in Belgium, while operation is on the left-hand track, as in Belgium and most French lines (save ex-AL lines).

Hollerich, Luxembourg-Ville (Hollerech, Stad Lëtzebuerg).

CFL_2212_Hollerich_1.jpg (158979 bytes)

Class 2200 EMU (Z-2212) of CFL, seen on RB 7738 (Rodange ---> Luxembourg Ville, via Dippach), very close to its final destination.

At this stage, this unit runs on the 25kV-50Hz AC single-track (left), which accommodates traffic to/from Rodange (and Longwy/Virton/Athus), while tracks further right are under 3kV DC, as they accommodate traffic to/from Kleinbettingen (and Arlon/Brussels).
