Fifteen units of the 734 diesel-hydraulic shunter series were purchased on 1986/03/25 from DB (German Railways), namely ten units of V 260 type, constituting the subclass 0, and five units of V 261 type, forming the subclass 100; these correspond to the present German classes DB 360 and 361 respectively (which were marked as DB 260 and 261 until 1987). Because of their German origin, they are popularly called »Swabian«. They were intended to enhance the shunting capacities in Croatia.

The shunters of this series are 3-axle frame locomotives of the CP type (the driven axles joined with the poles), with hydraulic transmission.

General repairs were agreed upon in 1988, as the unit no. 734-006 was hauled to Zagreb Railway Works. However, problems with the spare parts of the diesel-motor notably prolonged the repair time, so the motor itself was repaired only in May 1991, and the entire unit was fixed by 1992/01/08.

To prevent these recurring problems, plans have been made for replacement of original Maybach diesel-motors with domestic motors of the type Pielstick, manufactured by Uljanik Works in Pula — as it was performed with all the remaining shunter classes.

Since 1993, eight units of the series have been cashed, and additional three written off. Now there are only three units of the subclass 0 retained in Zagreb, and a single unit of the subclass 100 (namely no. 2133-101), yet out of operation.
