BDZ - Bulgarski

Network length, gauge and electrification (2003):
- 3886km standard gauge, 2800km electrified at 25kV 50Hz
- 126km narrow gauge(760mm), not electrified
In 2006 BDZ carried 34.65 million passenger, about 3% more than in
2005. Freight amounted 21.3 million tonnes (5.2 billion tonne-km),
about 5% more than previous year.
According to EU regulations, BDZ has been split up in BDZ Putnitcheski
Prevosi (passenger department), BDZ Tovarni Prevosi (freight
operations) and BDZ Lokomotivi (traction) during 2007.

BM - Bulmarket
Network length, gauge and electrification (2007):
Bulmarket was the first company in Bulgaria to get an open-access
license. It mainly operates freight trains around Ruse but is allowed
access to the entire network. In 2007 Bulmarket acquired six electric
locomotives from Denmark.
In 2006 Bulmarket transported 252.900 tonnes of freight, producing 1.5
million tonne-km.

BZK - Bulgarian Railway Company
Network length, gauge and electrification (2007):
BZK is the first real open-access freight operator in Bulgaria. It is
actually a subsidiary of GFR from Romania. In 2006 BZK transported
445.000 tonnes of freight, producing 170 million tonne-km.

DB Schenker Rail
Bulgaria EOOD
Network length, gauge and electrification (2010):
In May 2010 DB Schenker from Germany got its own operating license for
Bulgaria.
The company is based in Pirdop and (until now) mainly operates shunting
duties
on industrial sidings. Locomotives are mainly second-hand from other DB
Schenker
subsidiaries, and are commonly operated with Logistics Center Danubius
from Romania.
