4ymg1_DH.jpg (81466 bytes)

Museum train of four 4ymg cars of the DB in Dresden Hbf. These cars were introduced in the 1950s and pioneered the new length of 26.4 m which later became standard for most European passenger rolling stock (UIC-X and UIC-Z cars). They were originally intended for fast medium distance trains ("Leichtschnellzüge"), but were suitable for local trains as well thanks to their central entrances, so they were used in regional services until they were replaced by the "Silberling" cars with their automatic doors. 2001-05-02.

AB4ymg 30119 Köl (new number: 50 80 30-33 919-3 AByl503) in Dresden Hbf. Originally this type was called BC4ymg (2nd/3rd class), but the era of wooden seats was already over - the interior in second class was much like it continued to be built in the "Silberling" type until the 1970s; in first class the seats were arranged 2+1 with central aisle (and quite comfortable especially when compared to what is called "first class" in local trains today). 2001-05-02.

AB4ymg 30213 Köl (new number: 50 80 30-53 912-8 AByl051) in Dresden Hbf. I thought that a yellow first class stripe above the windows was standard in era III, but here it is missing. 2001-05-02.

Umbauwagen.jpg (53381 bytes)

Einer der letzten Vertreter der früher allgegenwärtigen Umbauwagen. Die Wagen mit Gepäckhälfte hielten sich etwas länger. Auffallend ist der an den Enden dieses Wagens austretende Dampf.
One of the last "Umbauwagen" which were omnipresent on DB tracks in earlier times. Those ones with luggage compartment were rejected a bit later. Consider the steam ecaping on both ends of this car.

TEE bar car ARDmh105 in the "Rheinisches Industriebahnmuseum Köln", preserved by the Freundeskreis Eisenbahn Köln. This type of car was used in TEE trains in addition to the dining-car for those who just wanted to have a drink together. They were retired when the TEEs were converted to EC/IC. 2001-06-04.

TEE dining-car WRmh131 in the "Rheinisches Industriebahnmuseum" in Köln, where the FEK (Freundeskreis Eisenbahn Köln) is maintaining historic rolling stock. Only five of this type were built in the early 1960s, they have a double-deck kitchen and a spacious 48-seat dining room. After their original ivory and dark blue "Rheingold" livery, they were repainted into TEE colours in the mid-1960s, keeping their DSG inscriptions at first. They were retired in the 1970s. 2001-06-04.

The space-saving double-deck kitchen in the WRmh 131 allowed a rather spacious dining room with 16 tables and 48 seats as we see it here. The loudspeakers were added later. This car was part of the consist of the Rheingold 1962 and usually running next to one of the dome-cars ADmh 101 (which were meanwhile sold to several different owners and are currently operated by Tågkompaniet in Sweden).
