Wessex Trains Class 158/9 DMU 158961 en route to Portsmouth Harbour waits at the top of the incline from the Patchway Tunnel to let a westbound First Great Western HST on an intercity service to South Wales through Patchway junction. I am not certain why this signal is not at the opposite (southern) end of Patchway station, as this would allow more trains to call here (although it has had to stop anyway, this service will not call at the station). It would also allow the locomotive and first few wagons of detained freight trains to wait on the level rather than on an incline.

A long line of Wessex DMUs at Bristol Temple Meads platfom 7. 158745 closest to the camera is coupled to a Class 153 unit, these units spent a good couple of hours stabled here. A few feet further up the platfom is a Class 158/9 unit on a Cardiff-Portsmouth Harbour (or vice versa) service. It stopped so close to the Class 153 that I initially thought they were going to be coupled to form a 6-car train, although why a 153 would be inlcuded I don't know as it would lower the top speed from 90pmh to 75mph.

The Alphaline logo on the side of a Wessex Trains Class 158DMU at Bristol Temple Meads. Prior to privatisation the Alphaline brand was used for regional express serves accross the whole of the Provincial sector. Only the first generation private operator Wales and West and its successor companies (Wesex Trains and Wales and Borders) continued to use it. Since Arriva Trains Wales took over the Welsh franchise only Wessex Trains are still using the branding.
