Central Trains Class 170 DMU 170103 departing Birmingham New Street station to the east - I think the destination was Nottingham via Derby. The livery shows that this is one of the units that was cascaded to Central Trains from Midland Mainline upon the arrival into service of the latter's Class 222 units.

Newport station in South Wales - On the left is Central Trains Class 170 railbus DMU 170631, operating a regular service from the Nottingham to Cardiff Central departing platform 2. At platfrom 1 on the right, an Arriva Trains Wales shuttle service between here and Cardiff is top-and-tailed by Class 47 locomotives, 47815 Great Western in British Railways two-tone green livery and carrying its pre-TOPS number of D1748 is at the western end. Not visible in this photo, is 47839 in an unbranded dark blue livery at the eastern end. The shuttle services are operated at times of peak demand - on this occasion Rugby Union's Heineken Cup final between Munster and Biarritz was taking place at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. Also on an extra service due to the rugby is a First Great Western HST led by 43027 which is seen here passing through the station with a non-stopping service - the line it is on is more often used by freight services.

Central Trains servies between Nottingham and Cardiff are normally operated by single two- or three-car Class 170 sets, but today this service was strengthend to five cars with a one two-car and one three-car unit to cater for the extra demand generated by the Rugby Union Heineken Cup final between Munster and Biarritz at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. In this photograph the train is arriving into platform 3 of Newport station in South Wales with a Nottingham bound service, 3-car 170102 (a unit whose teal livery shows it to be one inherited from Midland Mainline) is leading with 2-car 170523 (in Central Trains' own bright green livery) on the rear.

Cambridge railway station has a very unusual layout, with the platforms approximately resembling a capital H - to the left of the left vertical stroke is the station car park, booking hall, etc. There are two bay platforms in the area between the two vertical strokes at both northern and southern ends, platforms 2 and 3 at the south end and 5 and 6 at the north. All the way along the right vertical stroke is a single platform face - the second longest in Britain (after Gloucester) - that is split into two numbered platforms (1 at the southern end and 4 at the northern) which are then subdivided into 1a, 4b, etc. There are several sets of points that allow access between this line and the lines adjacent at multiple places. This merged view is looking north from platform 4, just south of the buffers for the northern bay platforms 5 and 6. Platform 6 is currently host to a Central Trains Class 170 DMU.

Seen at Cossington just south of Loughborough a class 170 heads south on a sunny 18 October. One of my favourtie locations - Newport General. Photographed on 06 March 2005, The thing I like about this location is that the sun is in the perfect position after midday to give a 'three quarters, over the shoulder' shot. As well as this you can get a the background shot of the station. This is a Central 170 seen at the station.

This class 170 DMU is operated by Central Trains but is in a special 'Bullring'...Birmingham shopping centre...livery.

This is certainly one of the more unusual pictures we have submitted! The 'Bullring' class 170 unit has one coach
mostly in black but the other one looks as if it has embossed wallpaper on it, not to mention the two
ladies on the side! Never seen anything quite like it...at least not on a train that is! The place is
Cardiff and the date February 14th 2004.

This class 170 DMU which is operated by Central Trains brightens an otherwise dreary background. Trains these days
certainly bring colour to scenes in a way nothing else can...one of the reasons they are good to photograph.

Central Trains class 170 Diesel Multiple Units and a Midland Mainline Class 222 DEMU 222009 at Nottingham Station. The front Central trains unit, looking very tacky, is 170108 while behind it is 170639.
The livery on 170180 is not a standard one for Central Trains, and the colours lead me to suspect it was formerly operated by Midland Mainline, with their branding removed and Central Trains' added.
