NS-Reizigers
NS-Reizigers is the passenger division of the "old" Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Dutch Railways, NS). This company still operates most of the passenger trains in The Netherlands, although in recent years new private railways have appeared that now operate some regional lines. NS-Reizigers got a license for 10 years to operate trains on the basic network ("kernnet") of important main and regional lines.

In principle there are 2 train categories in The Netherlands: Intercity (IC) long-distance limited-stop services, and Sprinter all-station services. In practice also the older Sneltrein (express service) and Stoptrein (all-station service) names are still used.

Most of the passenger trains consist of electric or diesel trainsets. However, there are some locomotive-hauled InterCity trains and push-pull double-deck trains (that actually operate as a trainset).
